BURGESS: DON'T STOP THE PARTY

21 April 2017

Defender looking forward to Cambridge clash

The promotion party has only just started to die down following Pompey’s victory at Notts County.

But Christian Burgess is sure that it will start back up again when they host Cambridge this weekend.

Those members of the Fratton faithful who were not at Meadow Lane will have a chance to toast their heroes.

And Burgess is looking forward to seeing more ecstatic scenes on the Blues’ own patch.

The defender said: “There was delight, relief and some great celebrations with the boys, as well as the staff and all the fans.

“It was an emotional moment when we realised we were up and that turned into those jubilant scenes on the pitch. I just wanted to soak it all in.

“Then we came off the coach at Fratton Park and everyone was waiting there, so we went to have a drink with them in the Victory Lounge.

“Everybody was so happy at what we accomplished and it’s certainly the biggest thing to happen in my career. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

“The scenes at our ground on Saturday should be fantastic and I’m sure they’ll be a celebratory atmosphere.

“It’ll be another party and then we’ll have another one at Mansfield and another one at the Cheltenham game!”

Pompey might have promotion wrapped up, but Burgess does not want them to coast to the end of the season.

He said: “There are three games left and I know all the boys want to get as many points as we possibly can.

“It’s still possible to get second or we could have a miracle and actually win the league, so we’ll keep chasing.”
