WHAT A FEELING

Chaplin and Naismith discuss promotion party

There was a huge outpouring of emotion when referee Graham Salisbury blew the final whistle.

Fans poured onto the Meadow Lane pitch after a 3-1 victory over Notts County secured promotion to League One.

They mobbed their heroes and carried some of them aloft in scenes of joy that have not been associated with Pompey for quite a few years.

And two of the players caught up in the celebrations certainly enjoyed the historic occasion.

Blues academy graduate Conor Chaplin said: “It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life.

“I was on that pitch and the fans didn’t want to let us go because we’d given them what they were desperate for.

“There have been so many years of decline, so it’s great to be part of a team that have started moving in the right direction again.”

Top scorer Kal Naismith added: “It was mad to see the fans. It’s something we’ve been working towards since I came to this club and it’s great to have achieved that goal.

“The celebrations were filled with emotion and you have to enjoy these moments because you might never get them again.”
