MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v CAMBRIDGE

21 April 2017

All you need to know about League Two clash

All of League Two’s automatic promotion spots have been secured with three games left to play.

Pompey and Plymouth joined Doncaster in confirming their place in the third tier for next season with victories on Easter Monday.

But the battle for the play-offs is still raging – and Saturday’s visitors to Fratton Park are right in the thick of it.

Cambridge currently lie in ninth position, while only two points separate Blackpool in seventh from Wycombe in 13th.

Shaun Derry’s men have won three of their past four games to keep hopes alive, including Monday’s 1-0 triumph over Exeter.

And they are one of just five sides in the division – including the Blues – to have reached double figures for away victories this term.

But United have tasted success in only one of their previous 17 competitive clashes with Pompey, with their solitary win coming back in 1978.

Conor Chaplin found the target as Paul Cook’s side beat Cambridge 1-0 at Abbey Stadium last October.

That was despite Amine Linganzi’s dismissal meaning they had to play the final 30 minutes a man down.

TEAM NEWS
Matt Clarke and Danny Rose are fit to feature after recovering from the knocks that kept them out of the Notts County game.

Boss Paul Cook has suggested that Stanley Aborah and Nicke Kabamba might be given an opportunity to impress.

Barry Corr (groin) and Josh Coulson (ankle) are both sidelined for the visitors, but former Blues players James Dunne and Adam McGurk could play a part.
