JONES PENS POMPEY DEAL

4 June 2014

Keeper completes Fratton switch

Pompey have completed the signing of goalkeeper Paul Jones on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old was available on a free transfer after leaving Crawley at the end of last season.

Blues boss Andy Awford said: “We’re delighted he signed – it’s a great acquisition for us.

“I watched him play for Crawley a few times last season and I liked what I saw. There have also been good reports from other people in the game that I trust.

“We fought off stiff competition from other clubs to bring him to Pompey and it’s great that he chose us.”

Jones made 105 appearances for Crawley and was ever-present last season as the Red Devils finished 14th in League One.

He also turned out for both Exeter and Peterborough after coming through the ranks at Leyton Orient.

Awford has also confirmed that defender Bondz N’Gala will not be offered a new Pompey deal.

He said: “We’ve got four contracted central defenders here and we can’t afford to carry a fifth.

“So we thank Bondz for his services and wish him all the best for the future because he played a big part in keeping us in League Two.

“But never say never. If something happens here and he’s still available then you never know.”

N’Gala scored three goals in 31 appearances last season after arriving at Fratton Park in August.
